Work Experience

Giving students the opportunity to dream about their future is one of the greatest gifts of our Work Experience program.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Your first job can be a challenging experience for anyone, especially when coming from a small farming village and being the first in your family to pursue this path. The idea of finding employment outside of farming or construction labouring work may seem like an unattainable goal.HUSK's work experience program spans two years blending classroom instruction with hands-on practical experience, giving students vital skills to assist them in gaining quality employment. We are thrilled to see some of our former students returning to their placements in the years after their training and successfully securing jobs. This program thrives thanks to partners like Tree House International School, Little Red Fox, Angkor Golf Resort, Angkor Hospital for Children, Treak Community, Blue Pumpkin, Beyond, many others.

How it Works

Each year, around 25 senior students participate in our Work Experience Program. The program involves classroom training led by our outstanding HUSK instructors, focusing on essential topics like employer expectations, personal hygiene, workplace norms, and safety. In the second year, students experience a combination of classroom instruction and a workplace placement, where they spend a week gaining hands-on experience to build their skills and confidence.

Annually, the HUSK team works diligently to secure suitable partner organizations for the week-long placements. Students are transported daily from the village to Siem Reap and then to their individual placements. At the end of the week, feedback is gathered from each placement, followed by a series of debriefing lessons with the students. Our aim is to equip students with practical skills for them to succeed in interviews and secure stable employment after graduation. We have been successfully running this program for over five years, with many students achieving  long-term employment post-education.

Support our Work Experience Program

We rely on your support to keep our Work Experience program running. Every year, students require instruction, uniforms, transportation to and from Siem Reap, and lunch on all days. Our program proudly partners with the HUSK Softies to supply uniforms for all students.

We seek funding each year to sustain this initiative. Can you help us support this important program?
