Siem Reap Floods October 2011
Since late September Cambodia along with its neighbours has suffered unprecedented rainfall. Severe flooding has occured across much of the country and Siem Reap province is no exception.
Supporting Education Part 2 - April 2011
We are pleased to advise our second delivery of bikes and uniforms to Treak and Kompheim Village has been completed.
March 2011 Tree Planting
We are excited to announce we have just purchased 132 fruit trees. These include custard apples, lime, jack fruit, sapadillo, guava, pomegranate & mango trees. Over the coming weeks these will be planted in conjunction with Beyond's Day in a Life Tour.
Supporting Education
In Feb 2011 HUSK launched "Supporting Education" a program designed to help the children of Type 1 families attend school. The program is running in both Kompheim and Treak Villages.
December 12th 2010 BWB
Our last BWB was held on Dec 12th with the Phan family - All 14 of them! Our two major goals were to build a pig pen and provide vegetable plots for this family. By the end of the day two little piglets were at home in their new pen and the garden was set.
Maroochydore High School Toilet Build
In late September a group of students from Maroochydore Highschool traveled to Siem Reap Cambodia. They funded and constructed a composting toilet for a family in Treak Village.
Vorn's House
Vorn was suddenly left a widow in Feb 2010. She has two children and supports them through farming & labour work when she can get it. Her home was in poor condition and while she had access to a small plot of land, a lack of funds resulted in the land sitting unused.
September 26th BWB One day Mission
On September the 26th our Second BWB was held in Kompheim Village. Due to a larger amount of participants work was split over two locations, helping the Em and Hia families.
Vie and Toouch's New Home
Work has been underway building a new home for Vie and Toouch's family. This family lives in Kompheim Village and their housing situation was very basic. They had no immediate access to water and struggled to keep warm at night.
Update One Day Mission
A few details on our amazing day on August 15th. A special thank you to the expats who joined us on the day as well as to the people and businesses that provided support. San and her family are so happy and pass on their thanks to all who made this possible.
Barangs without Borders (One Day Mission!)
Siem Reap is home to expats from all corners of the globe. On August 15th we are swapping our Sunday latte's and massages for a day of giving back! Register now to come and help!
Rice for Rubbish Nov 2009
On Nov 1st 2009 we held our first Rice for Rubbish day. Families in the village were given 2kg of rice for every one full rice bag of non compostable rubbish they collected on the day.
Roof Repair - August Focus
On the last Day in a Life tour in the village it was identified that 10 of the poorest families in the village have a leaky roof. Parents are putting their kids in the dry sections and sleeping in the rain. With wet season now starting this is a significant issue.
July Rubbish Collection Program Update
We are very pleased to advise that we now have over 55 rubbish bins throughout the village and at school and pagoda. The program is still very much in its infancy and we have a lot of education, communication and understanding still to deliver.
Fruit Trees are Growing
In July 2009 Fairview International School planted fruit trees in Treak Village. These trees were planted to enable families greater access to an additional food and income source.
Composting Toilet Update July 17th 2010
In May 2010 we built four composting toilets in Treak Village. We have been monitoring these each month to check how the families are going with the composting systems.
Typhoon Ketsana
In Nov 2009 Typhoon Ketsana hit impacting families across Siem Reap and Cambodia. During this time our team worked very hard to help the families in greatest need. Ketsana also was the final prompt for the creation of Husk. Here is a little of that story
