To kick start our ongoing rubbish collection program in Treak Village we held a Rice for Rubbish day. Families were given the opportunity to register with us and collect rubbish from around 8am until 3pm. We had an amazing day with 1150 bags of rubbish collected and 2300kg of rice handed out. The day was designed to bring awareness of the ongoing rubbish collection program and provide some education on the needs for rubbish collection.
The first 10 rubbish bins were distributed - aiming to service around 20 households. An ongoing collection service is now provided three times per week, enabling villagers the first access to rubbish collection ever within the village. Over the coming months additional bins will distributed to families, unfortunately the trucks can't enter much of the village and so many families carry their bin to the roadside collection points.
