Barangs Without Borders!
On Sunday August 15th HUSK is organising a one day mission in Kompheim Village. This village is located around 18km from Siem Reap towards Mechreay. The village has 30 type one poor families, who struggle to meet life's daily demands. These families routinely go hungry and simply have no means to improve their situation.
We have identified a number of families whose homes need urgent repairs or rebuilding. Some need new walls, others a new roof to enable them to have a dry nights sleep.
On the 15th we have four goals;
1. Tree Planting and Establishment of Simple Vegetable Patch
2. Planting of Baby Rice
3. House Repair
4. House Build
Expats living in Siem Reap can register to help on the day. We are also giving expats the option of being sponsored a bit like the 40 hour famine or MS readathon, although we swap not eating and reading books for hours of hard labour in the village! Sponsorship funds will help with the costs of improving and rebuilding the houses.
Registration Details
$10 per person to cover transport costs for you and for the materials and a picnic lunch
Each person needs to bring one of the following items (Mosquito net, Blanket or Woven Mat)
Any excess funds from the $10 will be donated to the projects on the day.

Can't Attend but Want to Help?
We would love anybody to make donations to help make this day a success. Funding will help purchase building materials, soil, trees, and rice seedlings. We would also appreciate additional donations of mosquito nets, blankets and woven mats. Believe it not, many families are very cold at night in the village.
Items - Can be dropped into The Villa Siem Reap Ta Phul Rd or Beyond Unique Escapes in Alley West

Who Are We Helping
Vorn's Story
Vorn lives in Kompheim village this February her husband suddenly died. Vorn has three children and her only means of income is working as a labourer either in the fields or at construction sites. With the Global Financial Crisis this year has been harder than ever. Her house is made of bamboo and is leaning over, a blanket is tied to the walls stopping the cold night air from coming inside. In the past she collected water from a 1m hole her husband dug in the ground. This year she received a well through the Day in a Life Tour. Vorn has a small patch of land where she can plant rice, but now her husband is gone she cannot afford to do this. Vorn is struggling daily to earn enough money to feed her family.
On the 15th we will add to her small vegetable plot, plant additional fruit trees, plant out her rice field and rebuild her house.

San's Story
San's house is very basic and sits in the middle of flooded rice fields. San rides her push bike 18km everyday into Siem Reap and back where she works as a housekeeper. Sans husband previously worked for a rice company but was injured at work and now struggles to even do basic construction. When work is available he works in the fields but this income in patchy at best. San's roof leaks, each night she puts the children to sleep under a tarp. San and her husband get wet. Their roof has 1/2 the number of panels it should have as they could not afford the $12 to make it properly. San routinely goes without food, as she only has enough to feed her children.
On the 15th we will continue work to help rebuild her house, add a small raised vegetable plot and if possible plant a small area of rice they can harvest.
